McCain - Feingold & Shays-Meehan = Bad News

Back during the 2000 election, I became more aware of my feelings toward this "Republican" Senator.
I did not believe this man was a true Conservative. I thought of him as little more than a fiscal/domestic conservative Democrat. I thought of him as someone in the mold of Georgia Democrat Zell Miller. Zell wrote a book titled "A National Party no more",noteing his discontent with the extreme left movement of the party.Zell and McCain are men of grey. They are, in vast opinion circles, ostracized by their party bases because of their nonpartisan stances. To me, Nonpartisan can be good thing .
That is,unless it is to the detriment of the party you have sworn allegiance to. What Zell has done to stick his neck out, has been while in alliegence to his party, and for the betterment of it. What McCain has done has been for political posturing, and monetary gain, and almost all episodes end up hurting his party. McCain is not a bad guy. He is, however, not someone who will carry the Republican base. He has voted in opposition to many bills that were key to certain Finance, and Civil rights oriented issues.

The problem with Sen.McCain is that he will always be a politically "homeless" candidate in any race. He is a Republican that sides with Democrats more offten thanalot of Democrats do! His joining with Russ Feingold on the "Campaign Reform Bill" has caused many more in the country to balk on him. This bill is overtly Liberal from the ideology stand point. However, the discontent with this bill is shared across party lines.

I spoke with a fellow conservative recently. She (Tina) and I were discussing the possibility that Hillary may have her sights on running in '08. The question we asked was, Who would the Republicans offer in her opposition? I honestly had no immediate candidate in mind. She however mentioned,Sen.John McCain. I thought on that for a while. McCain is a Christian, I don't dispute that he is a moral man. For the most part he truly believes as I do on the Issues .
However, he is too liberal in governmental issues for my taste. It's a shame, McCain is a good man, I just believe he is greatly misguided on the CFR bill.
You see the term soft money refers to money given by what Libs call "Evil big Business".In all actuality these lobbyist groups are not Evil, They are groups made up of everyday Americans; Groups of Americans who have Ideals and beliefs they want supported, and they feel compelled to get action on it, and raise money to contribute to the campaign of the most apt to support their beliefs or needs. Some of these may be great tools for humanity, and some may be as evil as Pro Choice advocates. There however must be free speach for all. If the candidate is recieving alot of soft money contributions from a group like moveon.org and other radical groups, he runs the risk of alienating his voter base and losing the nomination. So, you see, reguardless if there are funds from extreamists or from the Salvation Army, the groups with the most monitary backings will not tollerate fringe radicals. It works much like comercial broadcasts. Public oppinion rules. Most of these groups are supported by members and nonmembers alike. They consist of groups like, Greenpeace, AARP, NRA, Amnesty International, PETA, and thousands more. I don't know about you but I don't consider all of these groups as the stereotypical "Evil Republican group."
My problem is with the assumption that the practice of soft money contributions is inherently evil or bad for America. You see even back in the country's foundation era, there were groups of citizens (Called-Factions) that felt the need of Government support. Many of these groups were instrumental in securing civil rights issues, and many other issues that are the foundation of America.
When laws, like the McCain/Feingold bill, are advanced and ratified, the direction is toward less say by the every day citizen in Government functionality, and ultimately towards totalitarianism.
What is wrong with a group such as The United Way (supported by you and I) contributing to the campaign of a candidate who supports programs developed to help their cause?.....NOTHING.
These are the inner workings of our system. We are a REPRESENTATIVE REPUBLIC,
this means we are governed by what the majority of our citizens require.
The Left fringe hated Factions throughout history. They knew that the ability of large groups, financed by millions of people was dauntless, and could squash their hopes. So they started their own wacko groups based on environmental and social issues. They could not compete so they did what all good Liberals do when they are beaten.....they declared it a sin, changed it's name, and sent out the word that it was unfair.
I always thought the best way to elect someone was to be informed about them as much as possible, especially in the last 3 months, that's when the average American starts paying attention, and that is when this bill becomes the most restrictive!
I am opposed to any legislation that hinders or in any way infringes on the 1st amendment rights of any American. Yes, even if they are rich. There is no room for fairness debates and legislation that helps the weak "fringe's" cause, and hobbles the larger (usually good)causes. The Dems (and McCain) decided to cry "not Fair" and take their ball home. Our constitution should not be a battleground for class warfare.
So, no, I am not sure that I could support The Senator from Arizona. He may be a Christian when it comes to the basis of his voting record, but he has a bit of evolving to do to get my support.
Lets help to keep as many of our freedoms as possible. We mustn't equivocate. We should remain steady in our beliefs and never compromise what's right. Stay informed, keep the light of knowledge near you,
Without it you'll go for anything. McCain is just too unreliable, I say that if a socialist radical like George Soros, the Father of Moveon.org, a radical group who funded "The Day After"movie and compared G.Bush to Hitler, is happy with the CFR bill, you know it's wrong.
Don't just take my word for it, look in to Campaign finance reform for yourself.Remember, the puzzel to this story is that George Bush signed this thing. I'll go there another day. Here are a few links to get you started...

As for the question Tina and I posed, I have no idea. I don't have a clue who would be a candidate for '08 that could stand the test of Mrs. Clinton.I do, however, know this much, Hillary Clinton will not rest until she is in the White House again. She didn't put in as many miserable years as the wife of a scoundrel for nothing. She will be relentless. In '08 we will need to unite behind a true Conservative to draw contrast to the Extreme Leftist Queen of the Damned.
Write to Sen. McCain
