Gore ‘Perfect Democrat Candidate' in 2008
Ann Coulter supports an Al Gore candidacy for the White House in 2008.
Yes, you read that correctly.
The conservative firebrand author and columnist, appearing Monday on Fox News Channel, said Gore is just the right ticket for Democrats in the next race for the White House.
"He is the perfect Democratic candidate,” Coulter said. "The environmental crazies are really leading the pack in the Democratic Party. It used to be the abortion ladies, but the enviros are about to heave them off the boat because they haven’t helped them win elections.”
Coulter feels heartened by Gore’s constant chatter about "global warming,” which she predicted in an earlier book, would be the defining issue for Democrats in the upcoming election.



"As I predicted in 'Slander,' the Democrats have taken on global warming as their big issue, which they concede that - if it happens - won’t really happen for 1,000 years. Good luck!”
Coulter made some predictions of her own. She said the Democrats will pick up seats in the 2006 Congressional races, but "if the Democrats don’t get at least 50 seats in the House – as the GOP did in 1994 – they should just hang it up.”
She based her prediction on history.
"This ought to be the Democrats’ year,” Coulter said. "They’ve been losing for so long. They have not been able to win a national election with more than 50 percent of the vote since 1976, when Jimmy Carter won with less than 51 percent.”
Coulter said if the election is based on so-called "pocketbook issues,” the GOP should win big, but that is not likely to happen.
"It’s amazing how well the economy is doing,” she said, "but the mainstream media has a vested interest in not pointing out how well the economy is doing.
"As someone else has pointed out in the past," she continued, "whenever a Republican president is elected, suddenly the media notices homeless people again.”

Al Gore is getting the band back together.Gore spokesman Mike Feldman confirms that the former Vice President is hiring Roy Neel, a key aide on his 2000 presidential campaign and the manager of Howard Dean's 2004 run, to coordinate a new push on his main cause, global warming.Gore's new movie and book are raising his profile as the nation's leading voice of warning about a coming climate crisis, but Feldman told The Daily Politics Neel's role is not connected to the book or film, but to a broader agenda."Roy is going to be coordinating a bunch of the former Vice President's activities focused specifically on an increasingly high-profile role he's going to be taking on issue of climate change," he said.Gore has said he's not thinking about 2008 at the moment, but putting a political staff back together inches him that much closer toward being able to run for President. (Also reported today, his campaign committee has also written a check to a pollster, though they say it's a debt from 2000.)
