Double Crossing Borders

Last week President Bush met with Mexico's new President, Calderone.
Although he was greeted by demonstrations and protests in other Latin countries, Mexico (for the most part) appeared to be as friendly to President Bush as Houston, Texas.

It didn't take long for Bush to reassure them that the American welfare state is here to save the day.

"....family values do not stop at the Rio Grande River..... there are decent, hardworking honorable citizens of Mexico who want to make a living for their families."

Oh is that so Mr. President. Well from where I sit your pandering to the American Left and your back-hand to the face of Conservatives who re-elected you not only serves as an injustice to Americans but to Mexican citizens too. When will America be free of leaders who think Stalin and Lenin, Marx and Castro are emulable. Welfare without reform is like giving someone a fruit basket without the fruit. Of course Mexicans are good, hard working, family values people. Just as much as Americans are I am sure.
However, Americans need work too. Many cannot get meaningful employment because the illegals have driven down wages so that Americans cannot support a family doing the jobs they once did.

Meximericana Wage

A couple years ago I interviewed an acquaintance who is a legal American citizen born in Mexico. At 50 yrs old he still had a strong back. In the 70s and 80s, he worked for a livable wage. As a brick mason he brought home as much as $2500 per month. A good haul then and not too shabby by today's standards.

Then one day he applied for a job at a local Construction site and was offered $6.00 per hour.
It was an insult. With no union jobs for miles, he was forced to take the job. Soon he found himself working on a 90% illegal brick mason crew.

He watched as work site after work site hired more and more illegals. The wages never raised. He told me, (paraphrased) site foremen saw no reason to hire a 'legal' American Hispanic at $20 to $25 when he could hire Illegal Hispanics at $6 to $8. So he was forced to work for the cheaper wage until he and his family moved to a bigger city. There he eventually joined a union.

When President Bush and his supporters say, "They are doing jobs Americans won't do", they are correct. An illegal can make half the wage doing the same work while sending the money back to Mexico, where-as an American cannot feed his family on half the wage. If you doubt my predication I ask that you simply harken back to the early 40s and 50s. Who did the field work back then? Or to the 60s and 70s. Who did the factory jobs then?

Word Games

While in Mexico, Bush and President Calderone tossed about the new politically born phrase, 'Comprehensive Immigration Reform'. It's a phrase impregnated with a particularly twisted double entendre.
So what do they mean by 'comprehensive immigration reform'? Do they mean they want to fix a broken system in a way that benefits all involved?
No, they intend to fix a neglected system by ruining both countries, while putting money where they believe it belongs.... in the pockets of politicians.

In his recent speech the President went on to say,
"...... in the debate on migration .... my pledge to you and your government -- but, more importantly, the people of Mexico -- is I will work as hard as I possibly can to pass comprehensive immigration reform."

That's it folks! We are not talking about people who are illegally entering our country and raping our economy, crippling our health care and metastasizing into an anti sovereignty movement among our own people. No we are talking about migrants. They're like migratory birds. "O' Johnny don't throw rocks at the migrating birds, sure they're crapping in our backyard today, but soon they'll move on to someone else's backyard. Aren't they so cute.....who loves the pretty migrating birds....WE DO!!!!! Hee hee hee."

What in the world is this President doing on foreign soil kissing Calderone's boots and promising that we bigoted Americans will shut up and smile while Mexico exports it's poor to America so they can draw off our welfare and molest our culture?

The FIX?

So if tossing open the doors and letting Mexico's underclass pour in isn't the answer what is?
Well it is surprisingly simple. Here's what you do.
First and foremost you fix the problem in their backyard. Mexico has a system of government similar to ours. It's slightly different but the basis of our Representative Republic is evident in it's Federal Republic. So the structure of the government is fine. It's the internal corruption that keeps some in their country poor and desperate.

Let me give you a little background: NAFTA has proven to be Mexico's lifeline. More than 90% of their exports go to North America. While close to 60% of their imports originate in the US and Canada. With a GDP of 4.5%, new-comers to this side of the world would assume Mexico is a viverant self sufficient nation, and for the most part they are. That is for the northern half. In 2004 the not so right-wing BBC reported on the amazing split right down the middle.

"The wealthiest zones of Mexico City and the industrial hub of Monterrey in the north could be compared to rich European cities, but other parts of the capital and rural areas in the south of the country could have been in Africa."

Why is this? More than 64% of illegal aliens coming from Mexico hail from the south, an area that could be easily mistaken for Somalia or Afghanistan. Yet Some parts of the north look like New York. The reason is that the southern border of Mexico with Guatemala is awash with South American migrant workers. Most of these workers enter through Quintana Roo (bordered with Guatemala) where they work for near nothing on the Mayan River. They are promised great wealth in America. So they reside in southern Mexico until they can hitch a ride with these coyotes into America. Those who live in southern Mexico live in absolute poverty because of the crime lords and border skirmishes.

Quintana Roo and Guatemala are infested with crime lords who prey on migrant workers. These more than 100 different criminal bands get their funding from
China and North Korea. Human smugglers along with Mexican border agents and migration agents from Guatemala and Mexico beat, stab, rape and enslave the workers they catch. Only the lucky ones fork over the $5,000 to make the trip to America. Those who can pay get a free pass from Mexican authorities and increasingly from American border laws. Human trafficking from Quintana Roo/Guatemala to the US is estimated to provide more revenue than that of drug, weapon, auto, prostitute and animal smuggling.

Sometimes these workers will skip the coyotes and attempt the trek alone. They will stow away in boxes and crates on trains and in cargo trucks or such. When they leave one hiding place to go to another, ex- Salvadorian army thugs who call themselves 'Mara Salvatruchas' lay in wait. Like animals they ambush these migrants, slaughtering them. They laughingly adopted the nickname 'Migrant Hunters'. They also run drug trafficking rings, Car theft gangs and kidnapping rings. So what does the Mexican government do? They pay bribes to them to let certain people, cargo or diplomats through.

Why in God's name do we allow this to go on? What would I have Bush do? Stand up to Mexico. Tell them to fix their problem with their southern border. Crack down on Mara Salvatruchas and the other thugs in their southern region. Properly govern and care for the people in the south and stop exporting their poverty problems to us.
These people would not think of abandoning their homeland if they could live as well as those in north Mexico. Certainly not at the current rate anyway.

Yes Mexicans are great people, and yes they deserve to earn a living. However, not in the stead of Americans here but in their own country. Mexicans deserve to live in Mexico free from oppressive poverty and crime just as Americans deserve to live free in America. To perpetuate the problem by weakening the border is by far the true racism here.

Our border problems stem from Mexican maltreatment of those in their southern most parts. Either they fix it or we choke the last bit of life out of Posse Comitatus and enforce our border with the strength of our military. Kill NAFTA and stop the flow of goods across the border. When they comply we can enter into a new trade agreement, one that says if they export their poor we will cease dealing with them. They are a free market system, their survival depends on trade with America.

Now I am not going to defend against the normal diatribe that I am racist and bigoted etc. I have the greatest respect for the Mexican people and even more for Chicanos (*legal* Hispanic Americans). If they intend to come to America and go through the proper channels to be Americans, more power to them. Legal immigrants are our backbone. But illegal aliens should not be tolerated. The border is not just a line on a map, it is our front door. I'm just not so sure I trust those in charge of watching it anymore.
