The Constitutional Option

Today the Senate goes Nuclear !
They will begin the first step to end the un-Constitutional obstruction of presidential judicial nominees. They will bring forward Priscilla Owen
and then Janice Rodgers Brown. When the Democrats filibuster, IT IS ON! There can be no compromise. The Democrats do not have the votes to stop it, so NOW is the time. Don't let the Dems tell you that the changing of this rule is illegal or immoral. There have been seven changes to the filibuster rule. The last few changes were at the hands of the Democrats.They changed the rule to allow 60 votes to kill a filibuster instead of 67 in the 1970s.

Harry Reid and fellow Dems attempted to do away with the filibuster altogether just a few years ago. Now they hold on to it as if it were the Holy Grail. The Filibuster is not the issue here anyway; it is it's abuse that is prompting the Republicans to change Rule 22.
The Democrats have fought this battle by clouding the truth and flat out falsification.
For starters, Associate Justice Abe Fortas was to be the third Supreme Court apointment for LBJ. He was nominated for the Chief Justice job after Earl Warren retired. His nomination was filabustered bi-partisanly in that he Barely had enough votes to gain Committee aproval. The Senate failed to invoke cloture, a filibuster was started, so Johnson withdrew the nomination. Fortis was an extream Partisan Liberal, he was, acording to Johnson, the President's one thing he would not do over. Fortis was not the subject of a campaign by a political minority party bent on the obstruction of the majority as Bush's nominees are. Never before was a president denied nearly 50% of his Apellate court nominees due to a cloture killing, purely partisan filabuster. They say 95% of Bush's nominees were confirmed. That is a lie. 95% of his lower court nominations were approved. The Democrats know that if they allow constructionalist judges to be apointed to the Federal Courts, Bush will nominate them to the Supreme Court when Rhenquist, and maybe 2 other Justices retire later this year. They are blocking overly qualified Justices so they can continue their Supreme Court led strangle hold on Judeo Christian Values in America.
